Dr. Nasiek Hosts Successful Seminar On Traumatic Brain Injury at The Royal Warsaw

01.14.2023

It was a full house on Thursday, January 12th at The Royal Warsaw restaurant in Elmwood Park, NJ. Dr. Dariusz Nasiek from Allied Neurology and Interventional Pain Practice, PC hosted a networking dinner & seminar where over eighty attorneys, physicians, chiropractors, and medical professionals gathered. Attendees were invited by Dr. Dariusz Nasiek, pain management specialist, and joined by sponsors Susan Ruiz, Business Development Specialist from Hudson Regional Hospital, Dr. John Athas Medical Director at Paramus MRI, as well as guest speaker Dr. Nilay Shah, neurologist.

Dr. Nasiek started off the evening with a short, yet impactful presentation on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Over 1.4 million people suffer from TBI annually and unfortunately Emergency Department clinicians miss approximately 56% of mild TBI cases. TBI puts people at risk for dementia decades after the injury occurs. Severe TBI can also lead to medical and psychiatric disorders. TBI is a chronic disease that can lead to high blood pressure, heart attack, diabetes, stroke, depression, and post traumatic stress disorder.

The first speaker was Susan Ruiz, who spoke on behalf of Hudson Regional Hospital, one of Northern New Jersey’s Premier hospitals located in Secaucus, New Jersey. She outlined that their mission is to build a healthier community through exceptional care, sophisticated technology, and knowledgeable physicians. Ruiz went on to explain that the Hospital is committed to investing in facility improvements, working with top level physicians, and integrating advanced technologies. They are there to provide their patients with the most sophisticated robotic technologies and treatment modalities. Hudson Regional Hospital offers an array of services and is an in-network facility that works with many insurance plans.
Dr. John Athas, Medical Director at Paramus MRI was the next speaker. Paramus MRI is Northern New Jersey’s leading provider of 1.5 tesla, short-bore, non-claustrophobic, and fast scanning MRI. Because their goal is to provide the highest quality MRI service in a courteous and responsive manner with an unwavering focus on the needs of their patients and their referring physicians, at Paramus MRI you can expect a higher standard of excellence. Paramus MRI is located in Paramus, NJ and can be reached at 201-483-6955.

The final guest speaker was Nilay Shah, MD, who finished off the evening with a more in depth presentation on Traumatic Brain Injury.

Dr. Shah, expert neurologist, spoke about TBI - an injury of the head from an external, mechanical force. This can lead to temporary or permanent injury. Common findings with TBI include loss of consciousness at the initial time of the injury, amnesia of the accident or for some time after, focal neurologic deficit such as weakness or the inability to speak, and neuropsychological abnormalities, such as change in mood, personality, or behavior. There may not be findings on a CT Scan or MRI, however EEG can reveal problems missed on an MRI. EEG is a method used to record electrical activity of the brain. This process looks at brain function in “real time” to identify potential problems missed on an MRI. Dr. Shah is located in Maywood, NJ and can be reached at 201-880-8060.

Everyone had a wonderful evening of networking. Allied Neurology and Interventional Pain Practice, PC would like to thank Hudson Regional Hospital and Paramus MRI for sponsoring such a successful event. We would also like to thank Dr. Nilay Shah from BonLeven Healthcare for being our special guest speaker. Dr. Nasiek’s next event will be held on February 9th, 2023 at The Royal Warsaw. We are extending our invitation to all our friends, contributors, and professional family to participate in future events.
