Dr. Dariusz Nasiek hosted a highly anticipated monthly dinner seminar that brought together professionals from various industries and backgrounds. The event, titled “The Long-Lasting Implications of Traumatic Brain Injury: An Exploration into Dementia Risks and Life Expectancy Deterioration,” was held at OSTERIA RESTAURANT and marked an evening of connection, collaboration, and inspiration.
In a world increasingly dominated by technology, Dr. Nasiek emphasized the irreplaceable value of face-to-face interactions and the bonds formed in a room filled with like-minded individuals. This event was made possible by the generous support of Hudson Regional Hospital, a premier healthcare institution serving Northern New Jersey.

Bill DeIasi, VP of Business Development at Hudson Regional Hospital, took the stage to inform the audience about the hospital’s recent expansion, including the opening of two state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs. DeIasi emphasized the critical importance of early intervention in cardiovascular emergencies and the life-saving treatments offered by these facilities, which include high-level coronary and vascular disease imaging, minimally invasive procedures, and plans for a neuro-interventional program for acute stroke patients.

Following Mr. DeIasi’s presentation, Dr. Nasiek of Allied Neurology & Interventional Pain Practice, a Center of Excellence for evaluating and treating traumatic brain injury (TBI), delivered an informative talk. He highlighted that approximately 1.4 million people in the United States sustain a TBI each year, with TBI being a risk factor for the development of dementia. Dr. Nasiek stressed the importance of ongoing research to understand better the association and mechanistic pathways between TBI and dementia, especially in light of increased reports of MVA and sports-related TBIs.
Dr. Nasiek also shared that TBI is associated with higher prevalence rates of diabetes, hypertension, myocardial infarction, cerebral vascular disease, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Veterans with TBI are at a higher risk of developing dementia and have a reduced life expectancy, with some dying as much as nine years earlier, depending on the severity of their injury.
The final guest speaker, Nilay Shah, MD, an expert neurologist and Medical Director for several neurology programs and clinics in New Jersey and New York, continued the discussion on TBI. He discussed common findings associated with TBI, such as loss of consciousness, amnesia, neurologic deficits, and neuropsychological abnormalities. Dr. Shah highlighted the utility of EEG (electroencephalogram) in detecting problems missed on MRI scans, emphasizing the importance of early detection and treatment of head trauma.
Both Dr. Nasiek and Dr. Shah encouraged referrals of patients with any level of suspicion of head trauma for evaluation and treatment, stressing the severity of this disease and its potentially deadly consequences.
Dr. Nasiek’s monthly networking events are designed as educational seminars that provide a dynamic platform for forging new relationships, sharing insights, and exploring opportunities for growth and success. The event attendees engaged in lively discussions, exchanged ideas, and built lasting connections to propel their careers and aspirations forward.
