On Thursday, December 7th, 2023, Dr. Dariusz Nasiek from Allied Neurology & Interventional Pain Practice hosted a dynamic networking event, graciously welcoming esteemed guests, professionals, and colleagues. This event took place in the lively setting of Osteria Italiana, marking a celebration of the immense potential of networking, where opportunities are plentiful and collaborations thrive. The evening, they commenced with Susan Ruiz representing Hudson Regional Hospital (HRH), a premier healthcare facility in Northern New Jersey in Secaucus. Dr. Nasiek then took the stage to discuss Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and its potential long-term implications, such as an increased risk of developing dementia decades post-injury. TBI, resulting from various incidents like falls, car accidents, sports injuries, or violence, can range from mild to severe, sometimes leading to chronic complications or fatality. Research indicates that severe TBI, especially multiple incidents or injuries at a young age, may heighten dementia risk. Dr. Nasiek highlighted TBI’s association with a higher prevalence of conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart attacks, strokes, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. He noted that veterans with TBI are more likely to develop dementia compared to those without. The evening featured a special guest speaker, Dr. Jay S. Reidler, MD, MPH, an accomplished adult and pediatric spine surgeon. Dr. Reidler’s educational journey began at Harvard University, where he majored in Neurobiology, followed by an MD from Harvard Medical School and an MPH focusing on Healthcare Management and Policy from Harvard School of Public Health. His extensive training includes an orthopedic surgery residency at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and fellowships in adult and pediatric spine surgery at New York-Presbyterian Och Spine Hospital/Columbia University, alongside specialized training at Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.
