Back Pain Treatment
Back pain is one of the most common types of pain that people complain about, making it hard to go through day-to-day activities. There are many reasons and causes of back pain, meaning that everyone’s treatment varies on their specific needs. Before starting any treatment, it’s important to consult with your physician to tailor the best approach to your needs and underlying condition.
- Trigger Point Injection: This is the least invasive treatment option. A local anesthetic and steroid are injected into specific points in your back, often performed in a doctor’s office. People are usually able to return to their daily activities right away.
- Facet Joint Injection: Slightly more involved, this procedure involves injecting a steroid and anesthetic into the facet joints of your spine. It’s done on an outpatient basis.Â
- Medical Branch Block: This technique targets the nerves supplying the facet joints with a local anesthetic. It’s a quick procedure, usually taking around 20-30 minutes.Â
- Epidural Steroid Injection: For radicular pain caused by nerve compression, this procedure injects medication into the epidural space of your space. It’s more invasive with a brief recovery period but can offer several weeks to months of relief.
- Intradiscal Procedures: These are procedures for discogenic pain, including Intradiscal Electrothermal Therapy (IDET), Discography, and Nucleoplasty.
- Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS): A more invasive option where these electrodes are placed in the spinal canal to stimulate nerves and reduce pain. Patients use a remote to adjust simulation levels.
Each procedure is designed to target specific pain types and can be part of a comprehensive pain management plan.Â
Shoulder Pain Treatment
Shoulder pain can disrupt your life, but there’s hope with interventional pain procedures tailored to your needs.Â
- Subacromial Injection: The simplest approach involves injecting a local anesthetic and steroid into the subacromial space to ease inflammation. It’s quick, and once completed, people can return to their daily activities almost immediately.
- Glenohumeral Joint Injection: For pain directly in the shoulder joint, this procedure delivers medication to reduce inflammation. It typically takes around 2-30 minutes and can offer relief for weeks and even months.
- Suprascapular Nerve Block: This technique involves injecting a local anesthetic around the nerve supplying the shoulder joint. The procedure takes around 20-30 minutes and can offer relief for weeks to months.
- Radiofrequency Ablation: For chronic pain, this method uses heat to destroy pain-transmitting nerves. It might require sedation and can offer long-term relief.
- Arthroscopy: The most invasive option, arthroscopy, involves inserting a camera and tools into the shoulder joint to repair damages or remove debris. The procedure is performed under sedation and can provide significant relief for serious shoulder injuries.
Each procedure has its benefits and risks. Consult with your physician to determine the best approach for your specific conditions and needs.Â
Neck Pain Treatment
Neck Pain can be more than just an annoyance; it can cause serious disruptions to your daily life. Getting the right treatment is crucial for restoring your health and quality of life.Â
- Trigger Point Injections: For those with tight muscle knots, this procedure injects a local anesthetic and steroid into painful spots in the neck. It’s the least invasive option, allowing you to get your day almost immediately.
- Facet Joint Injection: If your neck pain stems from the small joints between your vertebrae, a facet joint injection can help. It can reduce pain and inflammation and offer relief for several months.
- Medical Branch Block: To diagnose and treat facet joint pain, a medical branch block injects an anesthetic into the nerve branches serving these joints. This treatment provides temporary relief, helping your doctor pinpoint the source of the pain and tailor further treatment.
- Epidural Steroid Injection: For radicular pain from nerve root compression, an epidural steroid injection delivers medication into the spine’s epidural space. This reduces inflammation and provides relief that can last for months, though it may need repeating.Â
- Radiofrequency Ablation: This procedure uses heat to destroy pain-transmitting nerves in the neck, offering long-term relief for chronic pain. It’s minimally invasive and can address many pain types, including whiplash.
- Spinal Cord Stimulation: For severe, chronic pain that hasn’t responded to other treatments, spinal cord stimulation may help. Electrodes are implanted in the spinal canal to alter pain signals, and a remote control allows adjustments to the stimulation level for comfort.Â
Consult your physician to explore which treatment is best for you. With the right approach, you can find the relief you’ve been searching for.Â
Knee Pain Treatment
Knee pain can feel like a constant roadblock, disrupting your daily routine and limiting your mobility. Getting the right treatment helps relieve the pain and regain your mobility.Â
- Knee Joint Injection: This procedure involves injecting a local anesthetic and steroid directly into the knee joint. It’s quick and can provide immediate relief to allow you to get to your daily routine almost right away.
- Hyaluronic Acid Injection: For those suffering from osteoarthritis, this injection introduces a gel-like substance into the knee joint to cushion and lubricate it. The procedure takes around 20-30 minutes and can help reduce pain and improve mobility.Â
- Genicular Nerve Block: By targeting the genicular nerves that supply the knee, this injection offers temporary and can help diagnose the source of your pain.Â
- Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection: This procedure uses your own concentrated platelets to promote healing and reduce inflammation. We can provide long-lasting relief by regenerating knee structures.Â
- Radiofrequency Ablation: This procedure uses heat to destroy the nerves that transmit the pain signals. It’s minimally invasive and can provide long-term chronic pain.Â
- Arthroscopy: The most invasive option, arthroscopy, involves inserting a small camera and surgical tools into the knee to repair or remove damaged tissues. This can provide significant relief for severe knee injuries.
While these treatments may not always be a cure-all, they can be a crucial part of a comprehensive pain management plan. Consult with your physician to explore which of these treatments is right for you.
