Cervical epidural injections are minimally invasive procedures designed to relieve chronic neck pain, radiating shoulder pain, and neurological symptoms caused by nerve compression in the cervical spine. At the office of Dr. Dariusz Nasiek, MD, this procedure involves the precise placement of anti-inflammatory medication into the epidural space in the neck using real-time imaging guidance.
These injections are commonly used to treat conditions such as herniated cervical discs, spinal stenosis, cervical radiculopathy, and whiplash injuries, often resulting from auto accidents, falls, or repetitive strain. The injection typically contains a combination of a corticosteroid and a local anesthetic to reduce inflammation and block pain signals from the affected nerves.
Key benefits include:
- Reduced neck and radiating arm pain: Relief may be immediate or develop over several days and can last for weeks or months.
- Non-surgical relief: Offers an alternative to cervical spine surgery, especially when physical therapy or oral medications haven’t worked.
- Precision pain targeting: Imaging ensures accurate delivery with minimal risk.
- Faster recovery time: Patients typically resume normal activities within a day or two.
- Improved function: Relief from nerve irritation can restore range of motion, strength, and sleep quality.
Cervical epidural injections can also improve the quality of life for patients with post-traumatic pain syndromes, especially when combined with other therapies like physical rehabilitation. As part of our comprehensive care approach, these procedures are supported by thorough medical documentation, which is often essential for workers’ compensation or personal injury claims.
If you’re experiencing persistent neck pain, numbness, or tingling down your arms, a cervical epidural injection may be an effective, non-surgical option to help you regain control and mobility.
