Lumbar epidural injections are a highly effective, non-surgical solution for chronic lower back pain and sciatica. At the practice of Dr. Dariusz Nasiek, MD, this image-guided procedure delivers a corticosteroid and anesthetic medication into the lumbar epidural space, targeting inflamed or compressed nerves caused by herniated discs, lumbar spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease.
This treatment is particularly beneficial for patients suffering from pain that radiates from the lower back down through the legs, often due to auto accidents, lifting injuries, or workplace trauma.
Benefits of lumbar epidural injections include:
- Relief from lower back and leg pain: Many patients experience a significant reduction in pain, tingling, or numbness.
- Inflammation control: The steroid medication helps reduce nerve root swelling, promoting healing and nerve function.
- Outpatient convenience: It’s a quick, minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia.
- Avoiding surgery: For many patients, this is a first step to managing pain before considering surgical options.
- Customizable and repeatable: Based on your diagnosis, injections can be tailored and spaced out if needed for chronic management.
These injections also help patients return to daily activities with greater comfort, often reducing dependence on pain medications. Dr. Nasiek provides comprehensive medical-legal documentation, making this procedure ideal for individuals involved in workers’ compensation claims, auto accident cases, or personal injury lawsuits.
If you are struggling with lower back pain or sciatica that hasn’t responded to conservative care, a lumbar epidural injection could be the step that gets you back to a pain-free life.
